FAQ

Where are you located?

We are located on Redstone Arsenal close to the commissary and post exchange and in 3230 building with Starbucks.

Can you see non-military patients?

Yes. Anyone who can get on base can use our clinic.

Do you accept walk-ins?

Yes.  However,  if our schedule is full we may not be able to see you that day or you might have a long wait. For that reason, it is best to make an appointment.

What should I bring with me to the exam?

1) a list of your medications

Because many medications can have ocular side effects, we will ask for you to write down your medications. If you keep a list with you we can make a copy of it and you won’t have to write it again.

2) eye drops you are using

Bring the bottles, tubes, etc. so that the doctor can see them. This includes prescription and non-prescription drops. Alternatively, you can write the names of them down on a piece of paper and hand them to the doctor.

3) your current glasses, if you have them, even if you don’t see well with them or don’t use them much.

4) your contact lens prescription

This is helpful if you have it. If not, we can take it off the packaging if they are disposable contacts. If you don’t have either don’t sweat it.

5) your insurance card

For tricare, we just need to see your military ID card. For other, such as medicare and blue cross, we will need to see your insurance card if you were issued one.

Do you accept insurance?

We accept Tricare prime as well as many vision plans; we are not a VSP provider. We try to make it as convenient as possible to use your insurance. For example, we will assist in verifying your coverage, file the claim, and follow up on the claim when necessary. Please provide all the insurance ID information when scheduling regarding all insurance plans. Tricare requires the benefits number, sponsor SSN, and patient date of birth for verification. Providing this information while making the appointment allows us to obtain authorization prior to your visit, thus saving you and our staff time on the day of the visit.

Do you fit contact lenses?

Yes, we provide a wide range of contact lens services including contacts for asigmatism and bifocal contact lenses.

Do you see children?

Yes, we see children age three and older.

Do you sell glasses and contact lenses?

No, but we do have a full service optical in the same building with us. They are a separate business but we work closely with them.

Do you check for eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma?

Yes. Dr. Hardman checks for any eye diseases that may be present. In addition, he checks for any ocular manifestations of systemic disease.

Do you perform eye surgeries?

No. When eye surgery is indicated from the exam results, Dr. Hardman will refer you to a capable surgeon. In most cases, the surgeon will be local unless you have an unusual condition that requires referral outside of the local area.

I am active duty.  Can my spouse or children be seen at your clinic?

Yes. In most cases we can file for tricare vision benefits for you.

I am active duty.  Can I be seen at your clinic?

Yes, but check with us to make sure you have tricare benefits coverage for this service.  Sometimes they require that you be seen at a military facility such as Fox Army Hospital

Do I have to get my eyes dilated?

Dr. Hardman does recommend dilation for most visits because it allows for a more thorough eye health check. However, we have a form that allows you to sign off on the procedure if you do not want it.
